Ed W. called us asking about a new basement. He wanted a larger TV space where his two college age kids could hang out. With a TV space downstairs it would be much easier to keep the living room upstairs clean and ready for guests! Total Basement Finishing went in and removed a lally column to give them one open room of about 400 square feet. They were very pleased with the quality of work!
The M's were tired of their gloomy basement. The M's used their basement to store various forgotten household goods. The large space was almost completely empty and used only for laundry. The M's dreaded walking down into the musty space and longed for a clean and bright addition to their home.
Total Basement Finishing, a Blackdog affiliate, was able to completely transform the space. Now, the M’s are thrilled to have a clean laundry area and plenty of room for anything else they can imagine.
Linda, a Lynnfield homeowner, wanted to finish the basement in her older two family home. But linda didn't just want the extra space for storage, she wanted the space for her son to begin his barber business! Now that is an amazing and supportive mom! Linda reached out to Total Basement Finishing, a Blackdog Affiliate, because she was familiar with Blackdog Builders. After learning more about Total Basement Finishing, Linda was thrilled to find basement finishing products that are mold resistant. Linda dreaded the mildew basement smell, and wanted her son to have a welcoming space to work. Now, Linda has that space for her son!
Kevin and Karen felt that their walk our basement was doing their home a disservice remaining unfinished. They wanted to add a bedroom, bathroom, and TV room. Basically, the couple wanted the space for an in- law apartment. Even if they never used it as an in-law apartment, they saw the potential benefit of a guest room and the increased property value that comes with the additional living space. With this basement, we had to move some plumbing to make sure that the bathroom was situated properly. We were able to move the plumbing safely, ensuring that the homeowners will not experience any water issues as a result of the work. Kevin and Karen now have a whole new floor to their house!
Bridgett, a Newburyport homeowner, wanted to refinish her basement by adding a guest room, office, bathroom, and place for storage. One thing Bridgett asked us to keep in mind... she was pregnant! She wanted to make sure work was completed by the time baby was born. We were happy to accommodate Bridgett's schedule, but her baby was a few weeks early! Bridgett called us, letting us know, and we made sure we were done with everything before she got back from the hospital. Though we know many parents who've done it, construction with a newborn is never fun! We were so happy for Bridgett and her new baby, and thrilled that we could get everything done before they got home. Now Bridgett has a newly refinished basement guest room, so all her friends and family can stay and visit her baby!
Tim and Michelle, recently moved to MA from down South. No, not Rhode Island, from Tennessee! They found a good home, in a great neighborhood, near their office. The only trouble with the house? It had 3 bedrooms and they wanted 4. It was important to these homeowners that their 3 kids each had their own personal space. Luckily, their Danvers home had an unfinished basement! A finished basement would give these homeowners the extra bedroom and additional space they wanted. Now their oldest son, who is currently away at college, will be able to return home to a private basement space. We were able to turn this Danvers home into Tim and Michelle's dream home!
Some homes have beautiful basements. This Marblehead home, unfortunately, did not. Our clients never went into their basement. They hated it because it had a smelly stale old carpet and stained paneling. Our clients are into fitness, and they hated the idea of working out in a space that made them slightly nauseated. We are completely renovating the space! We're removing all the old carpet and paneling, finishing the space with our mildew and mold resistant product and we're adding a gorgeous wall covering mirror. Now our clients can work out in a clean and healthy space!
A family in North Andover wanted to expand their living space, so rather than building out or up they elected to replace their dated, semi-finished basement with our Total Basement Finishing system and transform the space into a workshop and family room the whole family could enjoy!
We took their dated 1970s dark wood-panelled and floral-wallpapered basement and turned it into the perfect space for the home hobbyist and playroom/family room for the kids!
Instead of using the guest room as your workout space or getting a pricey membership, why not transform your basement into the home gym of your dreams?
A personal trainer in North Andover hired us to turn their unfinished basement into the perfect clean and attractive space for their clients. We installed our Pre-Finished wall system, elite plank flooring (perfectly durable for the heavy workout machines!) and a unique black sprayed ceiling to complete the homeowner's vision.
This project is in Haverhill, Ma. where the homeowner wanted to transform his unfinished basement into a man cave. This project features our Everlast Pre-finished vinyl panel wall system, thermal dry floor, and a custom stair solution to open up the space.
Having loved ones move into your home is a blessing, but it can also be tricky when you don’t have a lot of extra space. This was the problem facing our clients in Andover, MA. To combat this, Total Basement Finishing used their Everlast Walls and SaniDry system to ensure long-lasting moisture protection and reconfigured their existing space. With the addition of an egress window and a new bedroom, this family was able to welcome an elderly family member into their home, without feeling cramped.
There's nothing that can ruin the look of a space quite like damaged and outdated flooring. This was exactly the struggle of this family in Andover, MA when they approached Total Basement Finishing, A Blackdog Affiliate. A flood had caused the basement floor to bubble and lift from the foundation. Not to mention, the flood left the basement with mold and moisture issues. We replaced the flooring and installed, in its place, Elite Plank flooring. For good measure, we also installed a new PVC baseboard and a SaniDry XP system. These will help with any residual moisture in the space and mitigate damage from any potential floods in the future.
A young couple and their two young children suffered flood damage early on in 2020 at their home in North Andover, MA. Thankfully, they had a perimeter drain and two triple safe sumps installed. Total Basement Finishing, a Blackdog Affiliate, was able to get to work after the water issue was resolved. We added a full bath and an egress window that added much needed natural light to the space.
Tiffany and Mark are a young couple with two children in Peabody Massachusetts and live in a home that has been in their family since 1954. Wanting to transform their basement, they called Total Basement Finishing, a Blackdog Affiliate. TBF was able to create a play/family room, office space, and even installed a half bath. A bulkhead egress window was even removed and replaced for more natural light in the basement.
Mike and his wife are a happy couple from Andover Massachusetts. Mike’s grandfather built their home in 1954 and the basement was finished in the 60’s. Over years of basement flooding and mildew growing, the homeowners decided it was time to call Total Basement Finishing, a Blackdog Affiliate. After installing a sump pump and drying out the basement TBF was able to expand the couple’s bathroom to incorporate a separate laundry area.
Angela and Phillip are a couple from Salem Massachusetts. The family has two children and wanted to add a study space to their unfinished basement. Additionally, as the family spends much of their time at home, they decided it was time to create more space for everyone. The couple called Total Basement Finishing, a Blackdog Affiliate, to help them out. TBF was able to turn their basement into a beautiful media room and office space and a place for their peloton bicycle in front of the window.
Chris and Jenny live in a single-family home with their 10-year-old son in Newburyport MA. The homeowners both work from home and their son is home schooled. Their basement was already partially finished, but they wanted to create an additional area where their child could study. The couple called Total Basement Finishing, a Blackdog Affiliate, to assist in creating more room.
Michael and Susan are a couple from Methuen MA. They lived in a relatively new home, built in 2012. The basement was unfinished, and the couple needed help turning their raggedy, damp, dark basement into a livable area. The pair decided to call Total Basement Finishing, a Blackdog Affiliate, to renovate their cellar. TBF was able to turn the divided basement into one big room and even created space for the laundry area.
Rose and Angel are a couple from Methuen, MA. After the death of Rose’s father, her mother was considering moving into the couple’s basement. Total Basement Finishing, a Blackdog Affiliate, started the basement project by fixing some moisture issues. TBF also included a brand-new egress window at the front side of the house. The window has brought in beautiful natural light that the basement desperately needed.
Mike and Margaret are lovely couple from Boxford, MA. The pair came to us from our sister company, Blackdog Design/Build/Remodel, where they worked on a Kitchen remodel. To finish their home, Mike and Margaret were looking to remodel their basement into additional living space. TBF was able to transform their rugged, unfinished basement and turn it into the room the couple always dreamed of, and we even included a brand new gym area.
Aarthy and Maanas are a couple from Methuen MA. Having moved in together in Aarthy’s condo, space became scarce, and more room was needed. Total Basement Finishing, a Blackdog Affiliate was able to create more room in the basement’s laundry room and redid their whole basement.
Challenge: A very nice couple from Amesbury Massachusetts have teenagers at home. The husband works seven days a week, working from home occasionally. In his time off, he wants a place to watch tv and relax. The only space they could put an entertainment room in is their currently unfinished basement. An added reason to have it finished is to have a place to get back into the house after using their pool that doesn’t feel like a basement.
Solution: We created a basement space for entertainment that was just as functional as it was nice to look at. Against one wall, we had their washer and dryer. We added a half bathroom to give people a place to dry off after getting out of the pool to keep water from being tracked throughout the house. In the end, the basement became a stylish and spacious entertainment room, which they were very excited to use.
This project is in a partially finished basement. Doing work on a partially finished basement is something that happens quite often. This can be due to a few things. One cause is that the previous contractor didn’t complete the project for one reason or another. Another common reason is that the homeowner decided to have a portion of the basement finished for insulation or flooding purposes, but it wasn’t the right time to have it finished in its entirety.
In this basement, there were a few things left to do. The first were the walls, which we finished with our vinyl panel system in white. The second was the flooring, which we finished with MillCreek flooring in the color Natural Oak. The final item in this basement was to install a sump pump. This resulted in a fully finished, safe space for the homeowner and her kids.
For a job in Swampscott, Massachusetts, we created a play area in a previously unfinished basement. The house was older, with uneven stone in the basement. We added a new ceiling with our drop ceiling beige panel system and put in new flooring. We also added storage space and finished her stairs leading down to the basement. She wanted the bulkhead leading down to the basement to be weather-proofed, which she had done with another company. Once that was finished, we were able to add in six-panel primed doors, and EverLast insulated walls around the perimeter as well as the stairs. Finally, to finish the space, we installed two new slider windows.
The clients are a nice couple living in Andover, Massachusetts, with three children. They’re a professional couple and are very decisive when it comes to making decisions about their basement. They’d like a room to be used for recreation and a small laundry room. First, we added our vinyl wall system in beige and a drop ceiling in white. We also added our ElitePlank flooring in the color light pecan, with electrical baseboard heat below. The lights were our standard recessed LED lights. The finished result was a simple and elegant designated laundry room and recreational area.
A nice couple live in a home in Ipswich with their dog. The husband works from home most days and wants to finish their basement to have more space. They decided to create one large room with the stairs dividing the space in half. We added a half wall on one side of the stairs and made an open railing on the other side. The railing was oak, with a newel post and primed balusters on a composite curb. We painted the ceiling black for stylistic and functional purposes. We used our vinyl system around the perimeter and elite plank espresso flooring. We added 6-panel doors with aged bronze knobs and recessed LED lights. This allowed us to expand our space and provide them a modern, clean finished basement.
A couple owns a home in Topsfield that was built in the mid-fifties. This is one of the homeowner's childhood homes, and because of the sentimental value and potential room in the basement, he would like to finish the space instead of moving to a new home. We will be gutting and updating the basement, leaving the existing floor tiles in, and installing flooring overtop. There's an unfinished closet in the space, which we will also tear out to make part of the larger area.
They have an existing hot water wall heater, which we are incorporating into the new wall panel system. We are adding an oak handrail on the stairs, framed balusters, and carpeting over the top of the open treads.
The existing ceiling tiles are not up-to-date, so we are removing them and adding in a 5/8'' sheet, which will be finished and painted.
A couple in Andover, Massachusetts, are creating a playroom in their basement for their young children. We are finishing the basement as one large room with three vinyl walls and one paintable system wall. We added 2X2 foot linen ceiling tiles spanning the entire ceiling, with four new windows. We added new outlets and electrical baseboard heating. We also added a SaniDry XP to keep the space from becoming damp and humid. We used ThermalDry Elite Plank flooring in Walnut, which is great for a playroom as it's scratch-resistant. Finally, we added decorative post surrounds to the existing basement posts, and recessed LED lights.
A young couple living in a home in Manchester-By-The-Sea chose us to finish their basement. We began this project by adding our paintable wall system, having it painted in ocean blue. We installed six new interior doors and one exterior door, all with nickel handles. We added electrical baseboard heat to each room, as well as recessed LED lights and a new smoke detector. We moved a pipe for plumbing several feet into the unfinished area, as well as a SaniDry XP air filtration system. Finally, we installed our ThermalDry Elite Plank flooring across the large and smaller rooms.
A couple living in Middleton, Massachusetts, decided to create an in-law suite for one of their parents. We used our EverLast vinyl wall system in white around the entirety of the basement. We changed the existing door knobs for new, aging-friendly knobs. For the ceiling, we used our 2 X 2-foot linen ceiling tiles. We replaced all of the outlets and light switches, installed three new smoke alarms, and recessed can lights to improve the lighting. Finally, we installed plain ThermalDry flooring throughout. This resulted in a well-lit, warm, and welcoming space.
A professional couple in Middleton, Massachusetts, bought a house a few years ago with a finished basement. To make the house feel more like their own, they’ve decided to have the basement refinished, changing the layout to accommodate their hobbies and updating the existing space. First, we will be removing the existing ceramic tile. Next, we’ll replace the existing vanity with a new one and close the garage entrance that currently goes directly into the bathroom. We’ll remove all of the existing flooring, including outdated carpeting on the stairs. Finally, we’ll install our white flooring and paint the existing and newly moved walls.
A family of five in Middleton, Massachusetts, would like to refinish their basement. Their basement was finished more than five years ago, but it was before they owned the home, and is not their style. To fit the space to their family, we added two new walls, our 2X2 linen ceiling tiles, and all new flooring. The flooring was our ThermalDry system in walnut. We also added a more modern recessed can lighting, new doors, and our SaniDry XP air filtration system. This resulted in a basement better suited to the young children and parents.
A multi-family homeowner is looking to have her basement refinished. Because of the height of her ceiling and ductwork, this space will be used for dry storage. The floors were previously finished, and they are happy with them. Their walls, however, need to be refinished, which is why we used our EverLast vinyl wall system. We painted their ceiling black for a tidier appearance and replaced two older windows with EverLast basement windows. We replaced her lightbulbs with recessed LED lights and added a SaniDryXP air system to keep the space dry.
A couple with a young son are looking to have their basement finished in Marblehead, Massachusetts. They would like to have more space for storage that is dry and safe from the elements. For that reason, we are turning the area into clean storage.
We began by painting the ceiling, leaving the large wooden ceiling beams exposed. We then added recessed LED lights, new outlets, some alarms, and doors. The doors we added were rustic, with aged bronze knobs, and the flooring we installed was Light Pecan ElitePlank. Finally, we added a SaniDry XP system. This gave them a great new, beautiful place to store their items.
A couple living in Wenham have retired and were looking to add a tasting area, bar, and entertainment space in their unfinished basement. They also planned to add a half bath with two sinks. They found us and decided they wanted our finishing system in their basement. We began with our EverLast wall system in White and finished linen ceiling tiles. We installed two new EverLast window inserts, recessed can lights, and a sewage ejector for their new bathroom. We added MillCreek Natural Oak flooring everywhere except for the new bathroom, where we used our standard tile flooring. Finally, we finished the staircase with a mahogany railing and trim.
A man in Wenham has a basement he is looking to finish for his children to use. His children are growing up, and he would like this to become a space for them to spend time. He liked our system and wanted to create a single open room with a basic design. His basement is 800 square feet, and finishing it should not be particularly complicated.
However, he has decided at this time to wait to finish his space until he has more time to flush out the details, and for this reason, we have not moved forward with the project.
A man living in a home in Wenham, Massachusetts, found our company through our affiliate company, Blackdog Builders. He was very happy with the results of his home renovation project and decided to look into finishing his basement as well. He had a basic idea of what he was looking for: A laundry room and a second family room. He wanted the family room to be more of a general-purpose room with good lighting and recessed lighting. The space is about 800 square feet in total, and he would like to finish half of it. The space does not have any water or flooding issues, making this a project without a hard deadline for them to begin. For that reason, they decided not to pursue the project as of yet. When they do, they will reach back out to us.
A family living in Essex, Massachusetts, is looking to have their basement finished. Although it has been finished in part in the past, it needs a lot more work before becoming a usable space. They needed all new ceilings and for their stairs to be completely redone. Ultimately, they decided on our 2X2 foot linen ceiling tiles to span the entire area. For the stairs, we added oak risers and treads and a wall-mounted handrail. After the work was done, they were able to use the space as an office and a place for their children to spend time when they weren’t in school.
A woman living in Groveland, Massachusetts, found us through an ad online. After looking through our website, she reached out to us about finishing her basement. Half of the space was finished previously, and she is looking to have the other half turned into a guest room and space for arts and crafts. Although she is looking for a basement finisher now, she has chosen to have her garage finished before beginning the next project. For that reason, we aren’t continuing until that is finished.
A young family just moved into a home in Groveland, Massachusetts, with a basement that needs some TLC. They are looking to use the finished basement as a family room and a play area for their young son. They need a nice space for him to work on his fine motor skills and core strength. In addition to having their basement finished, they also want to have their garage doors removed. Ultimately, despite liking the pictures of our work and products they saw online, because of the size of their job, they have decided to move forward with a small contractor.
Homeowners in Groveland, Massachusetts, reached out to us when they first decided they wanted their basement finished. They were very transparent from the beginning, letting us know that they were in the early stages of prematurely planning their basement finishing. Although they had a sincere interest, when we first went out to see their space, they said they were purely looking for information at this point.
Their home was built fifteen years ago, with standard cement floors, unfinished ceilings, and walls. Upon seeing the space, we were able to discuss having the utilities walled off and turning the remainder into an office and storage space. The basement was a great height, which would make things easier when they decided to start the process officially.
A family in Rockport recently had their third child and needed more space. They heard about our company after we created a gym for one of their relatives and decided to use us. We finished half of their basement, moved their existing laundry to the opposite side of the space, and created one large room. We refinished their staircase, converting it to oak with pine risers and an open handrail. We used our 2 X 2-foot linen ceiling tiles, plain ThermalDry flooring planks, and vinyl wall panels. We used recessed can lights, decorative post surrounds, and a SaniDry XP air system. This left the family with more space that was safe and warm for their growing family.
A family in Rockport was considering finishing their basement. This project presented many challenges, as the house was built in the mid-1700s. Older homes don't always have the structure to be finished in accordance with modern codes and safety standards. Although they were looking to create a playroom and bathroom, after a thorough evaluation of the space, we determined that wouldn't be possible. However, there was something we could do to help. The basement was constantly damp and let mildewed air into the upper level of the house, posing a health concern. For this reason, we installed a SaniDry system, which would reduce the overall moisture and keep the air in the rest of their home clean.
A homeowner in Rockport, Massachusetts, reached out to us a few years ago to discuss finishing her basement. Ultimately, at that time, they decided to put an addition on their home and decided to prioritize that project first. They said they would reach back out when they were ready to move forward with the project. More recently, they did just that and called us back with an all-new vision for the space. Now, they've decided to add a guest room in the basement and a small area to spend time in. The basement is dry and a good height, making it easy to finish. Now, when it's time to begin their project, we will be ready to make their vision a reality.
A young couple in Beverly recently added a second story to their home. They enjoyed the process and were hoping to finish their basement as well. Unfortunately, that wasn't something their contractor could help them with. They found us and asked if we could create a new laundry area, bathroom, office, and area for clean storage.
We began by installing our 2'X2' foot finished linen ceiling tiles. To these, we added recessed can lights. We used our EverLast wall system in white, adding new outlets, switches and jacks. Finally, we refinished their stairs with a mounted handrail and Natural Oak flooring.
A single mom of two young children is looking to have her basement finished in Beverly, Massachusetts. She was looking for an inexpensive solution to expand her living space for herself and her children. We were able to work within her budget and create a simple but clean and dry space. We began by installing new MillCreek natural oak flooring across the entire space. We also added wall panels around her stairs to create additional safety. This was a quick and efficient job that resulted in a clean and usable space for the family.
Following a flooding incident, a woman found us at a trade show to see if we could help her with a flooring restoration. She had done a project with one of our designers in the past, which made this process quicker and easier as we already knew some things about her preferences and space. We do this kind of project occasionally since basements are naturally wet areas, and many people have them finished with wood and other organic materials. This is why our flooring options are all inorganic materials like luxury vinyl plank. In this case, the customer had a 525-square-foot space, all needing to be replaced following the flooding. The client chose to use our light pecan ElitePlank flooring to keep the natural appearance of wood without the risk.
A homeowner in Essex, Massachusetts, contacted us to discuss flooring options in her basement. This homeowner was trying to find choices for a small room already built in her older home. Unfortunately, the existing flooring in the space was not waterproof and wouldn't be sustainable in a room she wanted to begin regularly using. We presented her with a few options in this space. The first was our ThermalElite Plank flooring, which we have in four colors and is our most popular choice. The second is our tile flooring. This can be slightly cheaper and offer a stone look that homeowners often choose for mudrooms but occasionally choose to place throughout their basements. The homeowner hasn't opted to begin this project yet, but is aware of her options when and if she decides to move forward.
These homeowners first contacted us through our online form, requesting that we look into finishing their basement ceilings, walls, and floors. When we spoke to them in greater detail, they were looking for a space to use as a recreational room and a three-quarter bathroom. We always present our process and options honestly and always want to make sure working with us is the best option for the homeowners. In this case, because the homeowners had a handy background, they opted to finish their basement themselves with a simplified version of their original idea. This is something we don't often recommend, as basement environments are tricky and require specific materials to stand the test of time. We are always happy to discuss a potential project and guide homeowners in making the best decisions for their space and budget.
