An In-Law Suite
Challenge
A couple in Kingston, New Hampshire, bought a home and were looking to make an in-law apartment in their unfinished basement. The basement’s perimeter had been finished by previous owners with sheet rock, which is not a part of our typical materials as it isn’t designed for basement environments. In this in-law suite, they were hoping to create a living room, bedroom, kitchen, dining room, and bathroom.
Solution
To create more natural light, we expanded the existing windows in the space. We also added two new windows and ultimately removed and replaced the sheetrock with materials better suited to basement humidity levels. In total, we finished the basement into a 600 square foot in law apartment, using our linen ceiling tiles, new recessed can lighting, and flooring in the color natural oak. We also added baseboard heating and a SaniDry system to keep the space warm and dry.
