Half a Basement Can Be a Complete Wonderland
Challenge
A kind couple live in a home in Arlington, Massachusetts with their two young daughters. They bought their house ten years ago, and have remodeled every part except for their basement. They want to make their basement into a playroom for their daughters, but the staircase is not to code, leaving a safety risk for young children.
Solution
The couple decided to have us finish only half of the basement, leaving half for storage. They were decisive, making quick decisions about their space, including adding in creative framing of the walls surrounding the stairs to ensure they were completely safe. Instead of our standard ceiling, they decided on sheetrock, which could be easily painted. In the end, their children had a beautiful playroom that didn’t involve running through the middle of their house.
