Adding Guest Bedroom, Raising Ceiling and Bringing in Natural Light!
Challenge
These homeowners had a big, but old basement which was overdue for renovation. The good news though is that with a big basement there is ample space for multiple rooms and areas for everyone in the house. And the homeowners had big plans. Their ideal basement would include a guest bedroom, a family room, a bathroom, and a laundry area. Their biggest issue that they had with the existing space was that the ceiling was very low, and they wanted to raise it to provide more breathing room and have it be more comfortable for the taller residents. They were also lacking much natural light. TBF was definitely up to the challenge.
Solution
The first thing we had to tackle was the low ceiling, which had to be raised before anything else could be completed. Once it was raised, we were able to install a very nice egress window that helped to illuminate the space while saving money on the electrical bill. Next, we constructed the spaces to accommodate the home office and family room. With the remaining floor plan, we laid out a guest bedroom, next to a bathroom for maximum convenience and comfort. The end result was an airy, well-lit, and well-rounded basement with room for everybody. Finished off with our paintable wall panels and a painted ceiling, and a light pecan Elite plank floor, the new basement is now a highlight of the house!
